K-pop B-sides > Title Tracks: Everyone has a List

I can only imagine the stress K-pop companies go through when trying to create the perfect title track. Trying to make a song that will encapsulate the meaning and true vibe of the era they want to release to the world. There have been countless amounts of bop-worthy incredible title tracks. But, there have also been b-sides that have, in my humble opinion, surpassed the title track for a multitude of different reasons.

I thought for this week's entry, it would be fascinating to discuss a few of those b-sides that I think were much more memorable than the title track.

Right off the bat, when I think of amazing b-sides, one of the tracks that come to mind is Cool Hot Sweet Love by Red Velvet. It still blows my mind that SM Entertainment did not make this the title track. Although One of These Nights has an impeccably gentle and beautiful meaning behind it, I think that Cool Hot Sweet Love encapsulates more of what Red Velvet was showcasing in this specific era. ‘The Velvet Era’ was a time for Red Velvet to show off their softer and sexier side, and I think Cool Hot Sweet Love did just that.

Another b-side that sounds better than its title track is Kick It by BLACKPINK. I am well aware that Kill This Love 100% represents the era much more than Kick It, but I can’t sit here and say it sounds better than Kick It. I would’ve loved to see BLACKPINK comeback with a more playful and fun song like Kick It. Don’t Know What To Do is another b-side that is better than Kill This Love.

The song 0 Mile by NCT 127 is better than the title track Cherry Bomb in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, Cherry Bomb served its purpose and still goes hard today, but there is something so unique and mesmerizing about 0 Mile that I’ll never forget.

Twice are known for the spectacular sounding b-sides, and Do It Again has yet to leave my mind. Do It Again is one of my favorite K-pop songs of all time. The title track, Like Ooh Ahh, is a timeless bop of course, but Do It Again is so much more special to me. I love how the girls of Twice perform it.

Love Maze by BTS is much superior to Fake Love. I never did understand the hype around Fake Love. I mean it is a good song, but I find that BTS’ b-sides interest me much more than their title tracks. Love Maze was one of my favorite songs of 2018 and will continue to be on repeat for many years to come.

That is all for today’s entry! Feel free to let me know the b-sides that captured your heart in a comment down below. I’ll see you all next week to chat about my favorite K-pop music videos of all time. Bye!

Ateez just dropped their new album and I have to say their b-side tracks are absolutely amazing. The title track does serve its purpose going along with the pirate theme concept, but after hearing Mist and Sunrise i fell in love. In my opinion they are Rookie of the Year

Ma City is hands down one of BTS's best song of all time. Jungkook's vocal, the rap parts, the instrumental, and Jimin's raspy voice in some live performance, yes please. I have nothing against Run, she's amazing, she's a queen but Ma City is litteraly a legend (at least in my opinion) Im sad about the fact that BTS didnt promote that song or perform it more frequently and some people sleeping on it so harddd. And another bside that i really enjoy is Stupid Cupid and LP by Red Velvet. Everyone knows that Red Velvet is bside queen, i could make a whole lecture about Red Velvet's discography. Those 2 songs are just on of my favorite and they…

Other amazing b-side is The Eve by EXO!!. That song is superior much more better that Kokobop (the dance practice of The Eve is the most viewed dance practice of exo). I agree with you regarding Twice (I miss rapper Momo so much) and Blackpink. But I have to disagree with you when you talked about NCT and BTS. Fake Love was THE song. It charted number 8 in the Billboard 100 (the best record for a bts song) and also I understand about your preference with Love Maze; but tbh, all the songs of LY:Tear were amazing. That album for me is the best album in kpop (love maze, outro tear, singularity, paradise, etc). Fake love was literally the…
